To use GetClicky analytics / tracking codes with Magento’s SSL (HTTPS) protected pages, you have two options. One is to use GetClicky’s HTTPS code throughout the website or use it within an IF clause. The following demonstrates an inbuilt Magento funtion to check if the visitor is on a HTTPS or HTTP page.

<?php if (Mage::app()->getStore()->isCurrentlySecure()): ?>
<?php // Clicky HTTPS tracking code goes here ?>
<?php else : ?>

The above code might come handy for various cases where you might need to check for HTTPS.

Magento – Set Product Dropdown and Multiselect Values Programmatically

Here’s how to programmatically, meaning through code, set a product’s attribute value when the attribute is of type Dropdown or Multiselect.  For dropdown, we’ll be interested in setting only a single value.  And obviously for multiselect, we’ll be interested in setting multiple values.

With Text attributes such as Name and Description, you can do something like:

$product->setName( 'My Sweet Shirt' );
$product->setDescription( 'This shirt will make you look good, thus impressing girls.' );

Unfortunately, this won’t work for attributes whose values are predefined.  Instead of cursing Magento,
 think of it as a data-integrity/validation measure.

HANDY REGEX FOR ADDING INLINE TRANSLATIONS TO MAGENTO TEMPLATE FILES

When developing Magento themes, you will quite often have flat HTML that you are breaking apart and putting into Magento template files. One thing that I have OCD-like tendencies with is the need to make sure that all text is in an inline translate. By that I mean using:

<?php echo $this->__('Basket') ?>

Obviously, this is good practice to have when building any Magento store! However, it can sometimes mean a lot of repetitive typing, so I decided to use a regular expression instead to replace text automatically. I’ve tended to use textmate during development and so have used the following for “Find and Replace”, but they can easily be converted to be used in your text editor or IDE of choice.
