A client wanted every checkout on his site to be a guest checkout. He was selling a very niche product and wanted to avoid hassling potential customers with a user log-in or registration form. The goal was to modify Magento’s   One Page Checkout to completely skip Step 1: Login/Register and show Step 2: Billing Information.

We are going to:

  1. Hide Step 1
  2. Tell Magento that Step 1 was “completed” as Guest
  3. Have Step 2 appear as Step 1

Do you have clients who are reporting that their customers are unable to checkout, but you can’t find any problem with your client’s Magento checkout process? Are customers of your Magento site complaining that they have to re-enter their address because they can’t check out? We may have an answer for you!

Yesterday, we discovered the source of a particularly ugly issue that has been plaguing one of our clients.

For months, customers of this client’s Magento site have been complaining of problems checking out, but we’ve never been able to reproduce their issues. We found out yesterday that their was a gap in some of the customer data that had been imported into Magento when the site was first built. Some customers have customer accounts with saved addresses, but those addresses do not have phone numbers. This discovery came from a detailed email sent by a very kind customer talking about their problems.

The first stage in making this change is to override the default Magento class that handles the checkout. You do his by simply copying the class file from the core folder into the local code folder.

1 cp app/code/core/Mage/Checkout/Block/Onepage/Billing.php app/code/core/Mage/Checkout/Onepage

All you then need to do is edit your new version of the file and change the function that sets the default. Change the code below…

In this tutorial we are going to see how to add a file upload field to any of the magento checkout steps.

Adding file upload is a bit tricky in onepage checkout since all steps use ajax to save data. I am going to use jquery based ajax upload tool : Uplodifyto setup the file uploading.
In the current module i have added the file upload field to billing step and payment method setup but following the same logic field can be added to any step. In the payment method section the file upload field is added to the purchase order payment method. Here are screenshot of the module
