How to be Notified About New Orders in Magento

surprisingly enough (at least for me), you, as a store owner, are not notified by default about new orders on your store.

For really large stores with lots of activity, that may make sense. But if you run a small or medium size business you would probably prefer to be notified, especially if you make deliveries.

As with everything in Magento, it took me quite a while to figure out how that’s done. Nothing on it in the wiki, at least as far as i could see, very little about it with Google.

So here’s how it’s done:

Magento get orders within a specified date range collection
A quick update again! I needed to grab all orders within a specific time frame, and run a cron job each day to grab the past 7 days worth of orders that were not set to Complete. Below is how I accomplished this.

Deleting your test orders currently requires running a script directly on your Database Magento. Make sure you fully backup your database before doing anything! This script will delete all orders in the database and reset all order counters!

Remove ‘Orders and Returns’ from default Magento footer

In Magento 1.6 they’ve added an extra link to the footer called ‘orders and returns’. This link however is added using an ‘addLinkBlock’ call, which doesn’t have a remove equivalent. Normal links added using addLink can be removed using removeLinkByUrl. But as I said, this isn’t possible with addLinkBlock.

First I tried removing the block with a <remove name=”return_link”/> but this generates an error (call to a method on a non object in page/template_links). One solution would be to just copy sales.xml to your own theme and remove the addLinkBlock action. But I find this a nasty solution as it isn’t update compatible.
